Special Needs Teaching

I am an experienced potter and pottery teacher, and have been employed in the Youth Service in London for many years, running a pottery.
I teach children and adults and a full range of special needs people.

I have recently had the opportunity to put my skills to rewarding use in Australia, where I have been teaching for the last year. Read more....

I find using the potter’s wheel is a great benefit and therapy for everyone.
Special needs children gain increased concentration and focus when using the wheel. There is an increase in their communication skills, in speech, facial expression and eye contact. They are absorbed in what they are doing, and its great fun!
Use of the wheel offers both visual and tactile stimulation, also the finished pot gives the student great satisfaction
Coil pots, tiles and ceramic jewellery can also be made.
I am available by appointment to come into your school and can arrange to bring a wheel. I am flexible to arrange sessions according to your schools needs.

Comments:
“The students really enjoyed the workshop, they keep on asking “when’s that lady coming again?” Special needs teacher Ealing

“ Rowena worked wonders with all our students. They were particularly mesmerised by working on the wheel” Art teacher, special school for ASD pupils.

“ When on the wheel, the boy pictured to the right here said "It's like my fingers are at the funfair".
